MovingBeyond (‘MB’) is a not-for-profit initiative bringing together business, government and civic society to accelerate the UK’s response to climate change and promote more sustainable ways of life. Since 2021, we have been travelling the UK convening, facilitating and catalysing events and projects, while growing a community of diverse leaders committed to nature recovery, safeguarding a just transition and speeding up the journey to Net Zero UK.

We are a small core team, but our wider network of ‘MB-ers’ now spans the four corners of the UK, covering many sectors and topic areas — from energy, retrofit and finance to arts, communications, psychology, mental health, community building and beyond.

Our dream is to help build a cross-sector community of people across the UK, enabling us all to go further, faster — and to act as a catalyst for the relationships and projects that will shape a more positive future for ourselves and the generations that follow.

This year marks a first: we’re returning to a place. After a powerful experience in Newham last year, we knew the work wasn’t finished. So we’re going back, and expanding across East London to explore what real, inclusive urban transformation looks like — in partnership with local changemakers.

Our next MovingBeyond event is happening with the help of our co-hosts at REinsTate Project and One Newham.

The REinsTate Project, led by ReSpace in Silvertown, Newham, is transforming the long-disused Tate Institute (est. 1887)  into a vibrant community and cultural hub. Rooted in sustainability and heritage, REinsTate brings local residents, artists and organisations together to re-use, re-cycle and re-imagine neglected spaces as places of creativity, collaboration and renewal.

One Newham is a partnership network and registered charity that supports the voluntary, community and faith (VCF) sector in the London Borough of Newham. Its core mission is to strengthen local organisations, enabling them to collaborate more effectively — and in turn, helping residents and communities thrive.

Alongside our co-hosts, we have spent the last several months deepening relationships with local stakeholders across East London, including councils, businesses and community groups.

The event will run for three days — Monday 20, Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 October — and we encourage attendees to spend two nights with our accommodation partner, social business Good Hotel (Monday and Tuesday). The core programme runs 9am–5pm each day, with community lunches and dinners on offer, and optional morning sessions (7–8.30am, Tue & Wed) and evening sessions (7–9pm, Mon & Tue).

Every MB event is carefully designed to take participants on a three-day journey where each session builds on the next. We do this because building trust and going deep on these topics takes time. For the full experience, we encourage you to commit to the full agenda and immerse yourself in the opportunity. We also understand that taking three days out can sometimes be challenging, so there is flexibility: during registration you can confirm which sessions you can and cannot attend. Alongside minimising waste and ensuring safety, we aim to create an intimate environment — so it’s important for us to know the comings and goings of attendees in order to protect the integrity of the space.

MovingBeyond does not seek to be an end in itself, but a catalyst for quality relationship-building and sparking ideas that can be taken forward. We also recognise that this work can be challenging, and too often people feel burnt-out while trying to make a difference. At MB, we’re committed to helping everyone feel seen, heard and valued. Beyond the event, attendees are invited to monthly online check-ins and have access to digital platforms where they can share updates, projects and support. Our community is growing every year, with a wide range of people across the country in daily contact.

Our event is a unique, immersive learning and networking experience — and a great opportunity to develop current and future leaders. More than this, MB is what you make it. We’ll work hard to bring together a mix of changemakers from across society and to create a safe, open space… but what happens as a result is up to you. MB might lead to kick-starting a new initiative, or it might spark a few important friendships that help accelerate what you’re already working on. What unites us is a feeling of being part of something bigger, motivating each other to do more and be more, together.

Thank you for joining us on this journey.

For example, could you support the below projects – takes just a few minutes:

  • Cody Dock: A Newham-based registered charity and social enterprise formed to act as a vehicle for the community-led regeneration of Cody Dock, and a vehicle for conservation, environmental and cultural benefit and our local waterways.
  • Trees for Cities: Since 1993, the organisation has reported that 125,000 volunteers have planted over 1,200,000 urban trees in parks, streets, woodlands, schools, hospitals and housing estates.
  • Woodland trust: Woodland Carbon is a scheme to encourage new tree planting that locks up the UK’s carbon emissions
  • National Trust: Make a donation today, and you’ll be helping them to plant and establish millions of trees by 2030

In addition to your usual essentials, attendees are encouraged to bring:

  • Notebook and pens/pencils, or whatever you prefer to take notes and collect your thoughts.
